Personal Ponies of New York State Welcomes New Volunteer

Please join me in welcoming our newest volunteer, Michele Ruland of Greenwich, NY (located near the Saratoga area). This past October Michele welcomed to her farm two very sweet and charming UK Shetlands, Champ and Twister. These two promotional ponies come very experienced as they previously spent many hours working with children in the Special Olympics Program in the state of Michigan.

Michele, a licensed social worker, plans to visit area schools and nursing homes with these two promotional ponies. This past December the pair participated in Michele’s church’s live Nativity reenactment. (She reports they did a great job eating their hay!)

We welcome Michele, Champ and Twister and wish them all the best in bringing “pony magic” to Upstate New York. If you would like to volunteer with the Personal Ponies, Ltd. program or find out more information, please contact State Director Marcia Knapp at 315-737-9376.

Volunteering with Personal Ponies

Personal Ponies, Ltd. is an organization made up entirely of volunteers.  As a volunteer you play a big role in bringing smiles to children and adults alike.  You can be of help in a variety of areas:

Community Directors: These volunteers oversee a section of New York State and help local families with their placement ponies.
Program Promotion: From booth sitting at area events, to providing a home for ponies who help to get the word out about the program, volunteers are needed to spread the word about the benefits of our program.
Breeders: Volunteers provide for the mares and stallions involved in our breeding program.  People experienced in this area are needed to maintain these special ponies and work with the National Director of the Breeding Program
Retirement: Homes where older ponies can quietly enjoy their final years are often needed.
Visits with Ponies: Volunteers assist in transporting and handling ponies when making visits to area nursing homes, schools or farms.
