Ponies Bring Smiles

Meet our New York State Director

Marcia Knapp of Clinton, NY, has served as the Personal Ponies Ltd. Director of New York State since 2008. Her background as a nurse in pediatrics, as a Child Life Specialist and in working with Therapeutic Riding Programs over the years has made a natural match for volunteering in the PPL. program.

Personal Ponies Greystone Lord MacKeenan and Greystone Lord MacKane came to live with her in 2007 as promotional ponies. Marcia hopes to spread the word throughout NYS about the benefits of volunteering with PPL and of having a pony live with your family.

"I believe that a child should be given every chance to have a childhood - a time when the world is magical and full of promise. Children experiencing developmental challenges, hospitalizations, therapies or even unstable family situations can rediscover that childhood magic through a relationship with an animal, particularly a special pony such as a UK Shetland.

Funding is Needed for Pony Transportation and Ponies’ Health Needs

Our program runs totally on the generosity of volunteers. These volunteers maintain the promotional and breeding stock of the UK Shetland Ponies, paying for their total care which includes farrier, veterinary and nutritional needs.

In New York State we currently have nine ponies in the breeding program and eleven work as promotional ponies. Six ponies reside with families with special needs children. Funds are needed to help transport ponies to waiting families from volunteers’ farms.

If you would like to help families with these costs or help volunteers when special health issues arise, please consider a donation to the New York State Personal Ponies Program. Your donation is tax-deductible and will be used entirely for the needs of New York State ponies and families. You will make it possible for our volunteers, our UK Shetland Ponies and our special kids to continue bringing a little “magic” to our world!
